What makes a good Islamic story for a 6 or 7 year old?
By six and seven, children can follow a story with a beginning, a middle and an end, and they start to ask why. It is a good age for the stories of the Prophets: how Yunus called on Allah from inside the whale, or how Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was kind to people who were unkind to him. Children of this age can also begin to see how a lesson from a story fits their own day at home or at school.
The games for this age move from single letters to joined letters and Qur'an words, and practise memory and problem solving. The audiobooks run longer, with chapters a child can come back to the next day.
Every title listed here suits a child of 6 or 7, though some were made for a wider range of ages. Each page tells you how long the title takes and gives questions to talk about together afterwards.
Key lessons children take from these stories, games, audiobooks and videos
