What is Allah Gave Me a Nose to Smell about?

Allah Gave Me a Nose to Smell is an Islamic audiobook for young children, in rhyme, about the sense of smell, all the ways it helps and delights us, and thanking Allah for it.

A child takes us through the smells of their days. There is a fruity, foamy bubble bath, squelchy mint toothpaste and far too much talcum powder. There is the smell of iftar cooking when Daddy goes to the Jumu'ah prayer, and a baby's dirty nappy (what a pong!). The child can tell that dinner is fish and chips before they see it. At iftar, the family says Bismillah and a dua before they eat. There is a bright red rose, freshly washed clothes, and the barbecue at Eid, with burgers, kebabs and corn on the cob.

The book also shows that our noses keep us safe. They warn us of a smoking pan and a fire as it begins, and of a dirty bin that Mummy says to keep away from. Pepper makes the child sneeze and smoke makes them cough, and when they have a bad cold, nothing smells good at all.

It ends by remembering that Allah gave noses to other creatures too, with thanks to Allah for our nose, mouth, eyes, ears, fingers and toes. It is written by Rizwana Qamaruddin and narrated by Sarah Aga. It takes about two minutes, is music-free, and is also one of the five books in the Allah Gave Me... Audio Collection.
