What makes a good Islamic story for an 8 or 9 year old?
At eight and nine, children read and listen for longer and want to know more about the people in a story: why a Prophet made a choice, how the Companions felt, and what they themselves would have done. The stories for this age tell whole journeys, like the Hijrah from Makkah to Madinah, and leave room to talk about patience, courage and trust in Allah.
The games for this age ask a child to plan, build and remember, and the audiobooks run long enough for a car journey, split into chapters. Many titles have a music-free version, and every one can be downloaded for offline use.
Every title listed here suits a child of 8 or 9, though some were made for a wider range of ages. Each page tells you how long the title takes, what your child will learn and the questions to talk about together afterwards.
Key lessons children take from these stories, games, audiobooks and videos
- Everyone feels scared sometimes, even a bird.

- Allah gave us five senses, and each one is a gift.
