What is Come to Prayer, Come to Success about?
Come to Prayer, Come to Success is an Islamic animated video for children aged 4 to 9 about a grandfather imam who races across land and sea to reach his mosque in time for the prayer.
The title comes from the adhan, the call to prayer that Muslims hear five times a day. Two of its lines are "Hayya 'alas-salah", come to prayer, and "Hayya 'alal-falah", come to success. They are an invitation to stop what we are doing and go to pray, and a reminder that prayer is the way to real success.
For the grandfather in this story, answering that call matters so much that nothing will stop him getting to his mosque on time. The film follows his journey, and the only words in it are the words of the call to prayer, including the declaration "Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah": I bear witness that there is no god but Allah.
It is a short, lively and music-free film that children can follow by watching. It is a good way to talk with them about the adhan and what it says, about the five daily prayers, and about why Muslims try to pray on time. Afterwards, children might listen out for the adhan at home or at the mosque and try to say its words along with it.
