What is Al Qaswa, the Special Camel about?
Al Qaswa, the Special Camel is an Islamic video for children aged 4 to 9 about Al Qaswa, the camel of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and the famous journeys she made with him.
Al Qaswa was the Prophet's ﷺ favourite camel: brave, fast and good-natured. The video starts with what made her a camel: one hairy hump, four strong legs and a long neck and, like every camel, three eyelids and two sets of eyelashes to keep the desert sand out of her eyes. Al Qaswa herself speaks a few lines along the way.
Then come her adventures. When enemies in Makkah wanted to kill the Prophet ﷺ, the sira tells that she carried him across the desert to Madinah. That journey is the Hijrah, and it marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar. In Madinah, the Prophet ﷺ let go of her reins so she could walk freely, and the place she chose became the spot for his house and his mosque. Her last famous journey was the pilgrimage to Makkah: she carried the Prophet ﷺ on his only Hajj after the Hijrah, the Farewell Hajj, and he made tawaf of the Kaaba riding a camel.
The video is short, about 3 minutes, and gives young children a first picture of the Hijrah, the Prophet's Mosque and the Hajj through an animal they will remember. It ends by calling her the most famous camel in the whole world. It is music-free and a Miraj original.
