Jumu'ah stories for kids

1 title · Ages 4-9

Jumu'ah, Friday, is the best day of the week in Islam: the day Muslims gather at the mosque for the khutbah and the Friday prayer. These Miraj audiobook and videos tell children about it, from the call to prayer to the palm trunk that cried for the Prophet ﷺ.

What is Jumu'ah?

Jumu'ah is Friday, the day each week when Muslims gather at the mosque at midday. The imam gives a sermon, the khutbah, and everyone prays the Jumu'ah prayer together in place of Dhuhr. It is a special day, and many families bring their children along.

In the audiobook The Sad Stump, told in rhyme, the Prophet ﷺ used to stand by a date-palm trunk for the Friday sermon. When a pulpit was made for him, the trunk cried like a child until he came down and held it. In the Juz by Juz video The People of the Saturday, Sheikh Azhari and his children tell the same story, and of a fishing village that looked for tricks around the day Allah told them to keep. Children learn that we obey Allah's commands rather than look for a way around them.

In Come to Prayer, Come to Success, a grandfather imam races across land and sea to reach his mosque in time to call the adhan. It teaches what "come to prayer" and "come to success" mean.

Each page gives the lessons and questions to talk about on the way home from the mosque.
