What's inside the pack?

  • My Five Prayers salah chart, page 1 of 1

This free salah chart helps a child aged 4 to 9 build the habit of the five daily prayers. Each day of the week has a star for Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib and Isha, and your child colours in a star after each prayer they pray.

What's on the chart

The chart is one A4 page in landscape, ready to print:

  • Your child's name and the week. A line for each at the top.
  • The five prayers. Fajr (dawn), Dhuhr (midday), Asr (afternoon), Maghrib (sunset) and Isha (night) down the side, so a young child learns when each one is.
  • Seven days of stars. Monday to Sunday across the top, with 35 stars to colour in.
  • Stars this week. A box to count the week's stars out of 35.

At the foot of the chart: "Five prayers, with the reward of fifty. The gift the Prophet (peace be upon him) brought back from the Night Journey." Our guide on how to explain Isra and Mi'raj to children tells that story, in words for each age.

How to use the chart

  • Put it on the fridge or by the prayer mat, where your child sees it every day.
  • Colour a star together after each prayer, and say its name out loud.
  • Count the stars at the end of the week, and print a new chart on Monday.
  • Praise each star. An empty box is fine: the chart is for encouragement, not a test.
  • For a younger child, start with one prayer a day, such as Maghrib, and add more over time.

Frequently asked questions

What age is the salah chart for?

Children aged 4 to 9. A four or five year old colours the stars with a grown-up and learns the names of the prayers; an older child can fill it in on their own and count their stars at the end of the week.

What are the five daily prayers?

Fajr at dawn, Dhuhr at midday, Asr in the afternoon, Maghrib at sunset and Isha at night. The chart lists them in that order, with the time of day under each name.

Why are there five prayers?

On the night of Isra and Mi'raj, fifty daily prayers were first commanded and then reduced to five, which carry the reward of fifty (Sahih al-Bukhari 349). The line at the foot of the chart reminds your child of it.

Should a young child be made to pray every prayer?

The chart is for encouragement, not a test. Praise each star, and leave an empty box empty without a fuss. Children are taught to pray from the age of seven, so for a younger child it is a way to learn the five names and join in when they can.

Can I use the chart in my class or madrasah?

Yes. The chart is free for personal and classroom use. Print as many copies as your class needs, one for each week.
