What is Aya & Yusuf: Fairness about?
Aya & Yusuf: Fairness is an Islamic animated video for children aged 4 to 9 in which the twins Aya and Yusuf learn what it means to be fair, and use it to settle quarrels between the animals on their family's farm.
The episode begins at home with the last glass of pomegranate juice. Everyone in the family wants someone else to have it, and in the end it goes to the one who worked hardest in the garden that day. The lesson is put simply: kindness is only half of it, and the other half is fairness.
Out on the farm, the twins soon have a chance to practise. Their cats, Milu and Leeloo, scare a squirrel away and take its spot. The cats are family, but Aya and Yusuf learn that fairness means standing up for what is right in every situation, even when it means not taking the side of someone you love. They help the cats see what they did wrong and put it right. Then a quarrel among the chickens teaches them the true test of fairness: making sure everyone has an equal share, especially when you have the chance to take more for yourself.
The episode ends at bedtime with the twins' prayer of thanks, and a verse of the Qur'an on screen: be fair, even if it concerns someone close to you. It is part of the Aya & Yusuf series, set on a farm that has changed and grown over the course of their adventures.
