What is Ant about?
Ant is a wordless animated short for children aged 4 to 9 about a colony of ants that works together perfectly, and one ant who does everything differently.
The ants are busy. They march in neat lines along their tunnels and branches, carrying leaves back home, all in step and all doing the job the same way. But there is one ant, a different colour from the rest, who does not do things the way the others do. From a branch, a bigger ant in a cap keeps watch over the work.
The film is told only in pictures, with no speech, in bright, flat colours and simple shapes that young children can follow easily. It is short, about 4 minutes.
Without a single word, it raises good questions to talk about afterwards. Is there only one right way to do a job? What happens when someone does things differently from everyone else? Can a new idea sometimes help the whole group?
It is also a chance to talk about the ant itself: a tiny creature that Allah made, which works hard and lives together with others in a colony. The Qur'an even has a surah named after the ants, Surah An-Naml.
