What is A Lynx in the Town about?

A Lynx in the Town is a wordless animated film for children aged 4 to 9 about a curious lynx who leaves its snowy forest, drawn by the lights of the nearby town.

The lynx walks out of the birch trees and into the town. It passes tall blocks of flats and traffic lights, and has great fun exploring streets it has never seen before. At last it curls up in the middle of a car park full of cars and falls fast asleep. By the early morning it is covered in snow, and the people of the town are astonished to find this strange animal among their cars. The last scenes show the lynx back out in the snowy countryside.

The story is told only in pictures, with no speech, in a painted style of black, white and grey, with the orange lynx standing out against it. Children can follow it on their own, and it gives a parent plenty to talk about afterwards: where wild animals live, why a lynx might wander into a town, and how the people might feel when they meet one.

It is a gentle way to talk with children about Allah's creation: the wild animals He made, and the forests and snowy places He made for them to live in. The film lasts about 7 minutes.

What your child will learn

  • Allah made every animal, and each one has a place where it lives.
  • Wild animals belong in the wild, even when they are curious about our towns.
  • We can wonder at Allah's creation, even an animal we have never seen before.

Talk about it afterwards

  • Why do you think the lynx left the forest?
  • What did the lynx find in the town?
  • How do you think the people felt when they found the lynx in the snow?
