What is Al Waliy about?

Al Waliy is an Islamic video for children aged 7 to 9: an animated poem about a boy who is scared at night, and about one of the beautiful names of Allah, Al-Waliy, our Protecting Friend.

One noise after another frightens him. First, thunder booms into his room and lightning streaks across his bed. He shouts for his mum and hides his head, until the light snaps on and the shifting shadows disappear. Then a giant seems to be walking on his roof, and his dad comes. Then a rocket seems to land in his room, and both his parents come running. Each time, they tell him not to be scared: Allah is Al-Waliy, He is with us wherever we are, and He protects us every day. Together they say "Ya Waliy", and fear flies away.

At last, a lion seems to be clawing at his door. It is only the family's cat, but in his imagination it has become a wild beast. This time, instead of shouting for help, the boy stops and prays by himself, and Allah shows him what to say.

The chorus is easy to join in with: Allah's name is Al-Waliy, He's protecting you and me. The poem helps children who are afraid of the dark, of storms or of noises at night, and shows them something they can do on their own: remember Allah and call on Him. It is part of The Beautiful Names of Allah, a series of animated poems, and is music-free and a Miraj original.
