What is A Cat and Mouse Pact about?
A Cat and Mouse Pact is an Islamic audiobook for children aged 4 to 9 about Matt, an orange tabby cat, and Millie, a little grey mouse, who make a promise that turns into an unlikely friendship.
Matt lives with Mrs Krause in a neat red brick house. He is playful, gentle and kind, but when it comes to mice, he cannot be nice. So when he catches Millie sneaking across the kitchen floor, he is ready for a snack. Millie begs him to listen: she has five hungry little ones waiting at home, and all she wants is a leftover slice of cheese. Matt decides to spare her. He lets her leave in peace with the cheese, but first they make a pact: Millie must stay in the street and never sneak into the house again. Millie gives him her "word of mouse".
A few days later, Millie comes back, but not for a snack. She and her children, Wiggly, Giggly, Little Millie, Bruno and Gordito, bring Matt a present: a whole shiny fish, fresh from the market. From then on they meet every night in the street behind the house, to share treats and play games, and Millie keeps her word.
The story is told in bouncy rhymes and repeated lines that children soon join in with. It shows children that mercy can turn an enemy into a friend, that kindness is often returned, and that a promise must be kept. It is music-free.
