What is Dawood and the Giant about?

Dawood and the Giant is an Islamic audiobook for children aged 4 to 9, adapted from the Qur'an, that tells how the Prophet Dawood (AS), a young shepherd, defeated the giant Jalut through his trust in Allah and became a king and a prophet.

Dawood looks after his sheep on the hillsides, keeps the wolves away with his sling and sings praises to Allah with a voice so beautiful that the mountains and the birds join in. When King Talut calls for an army to fight Jalut, Dawood's brothers march off and tell him to stay with the sheep. But they forget their food, and Dawood goes with them to carry it.

On the march, King Talut warns his soldiers not to drink from the river, apart from a single sip. Most of them drink their fill; Dawood only fills his pouch with stones. Those who failed the test are too scared to fight, and only a small army stays, trusting Allah. When the giant challenges anyone to fight him alone, no soldier steps forward, except Dawood. He tries on the king's armour, finds it far too heavy and walks out with just his sling. Jalut laughs at the little mouse sent to fight a lion, but Dawood's pebble strikes him between the eyes, and the giant falls.

Allah gives Dawood knowledge, wisdom and power. He becomes a king and a prophet, and Allah gives him the Zabur, a book of praise. Told in six chapters and read by Edmund Dane, the story shows children that courage comes from trusting Allah, not from size. It takes about 27 minutes and is a Miraj original.
