What is Abdulqadir's Treasure about?

Abdulqadir's Treasure is an Islamic audiobook for children aged 7 to 12 about a boy who keeps his promise to always tell the truth, even to a band of robbers, and whose honesty changes their hearts. It is a fictionalised retelling of an event in the childhood of the great teacher Abdul Qadir Jilani.

Nine hundred years ago, Abdulqadir is the best pupil in his class in the town of Jilan. His teacher, Imam Hashim, sends him to Baghdad to seek that city's real treasure: knowledge and wisdom. Before he leaves, his mother sews forty gold coins, his share of his late father's savings, into the armpits of his travelling coat. She asks for one promise in return: that he will always tell the truth.

In the desert, bandits led by the feared Hanja the Merciless attack his Uncle Hassan's caravan. When a robber asks Abdulqadir whether he has money, he says yes: it is in his armpits. The robbers think it is a joke, until Hanja himself asks and finds the gold. Stunned that a boy would tell the truth without fear, Hanja weeps. He remembers his own mother and the promises he broke to Allah, and asks whether Allah could ever forgive him. Never lose hope, Abdulqadir tells him.

Told in six chapters and read by Edmund Dane, the story shows children the power of honesty and of trust in Allah, and that it is never too late to turn back to Him. Some scenes, with swords and daggers, are tense. It is a Miraj original.
