A Whale of a Wish

A Whale of a Wish is an Islamic audiobook for children aged 4 to 9 that tells the story of the Prophet Yunus (AS) and the whale in rhyme, from the point of view of the whale.

A kind young whale lives with his family deep in the sea. He has one wish: to do something unique, to make Allah proud and to prove how good a whale he can be. When he is big and strong, he says goodbye to his family and swims across the oceans, helping those in need along the way. He saves a dolphin from a stingray and even makes friends with a giant squid.

One night he has a feeling that he must swim far out to sea. A terrible storm breaks, and he is frightened of the thunder and lightning. Then he sees a boat thrown about by the waves, and a man falling from its deck. Allah inspires him to have no fear and to save the Prophet Yunus (AS). The whale trusts Allah and swallows Yunus whole. For many days and nights, Yunus prays inside the whale's belly, asking Allah to forgive him. At last, at Allah's command, the whale swims to the shore and returns the Prophet safely to dry land.

The whale feels thankful and blessed to have been part of such a special story. Children learn that Allah hears the dua of anyone who turns to Him, and that trusting Allah helps us overcome our fears. The book is written by Razana Noor and narrated by Rania Kurdi, and it is music-free.

• Surah Al-Anbiya 21:87-88: Yunus (AS) calls out in the darkness, "There is no god but You, glory be to You; I have been among the wrongdoers," and Allah saves him from his distress.
• Surah As-Saffat 37:139-148: Yunus (AS) is swallowed by the fish, glorifies Allah inside it, and is cast onto the shore.
