Juz by Juz: Ibrahim and Ismail

Juz by Juz: Ibrahim and Ismail is an Islamic video for children aged 4 to 9 in which Sheikh Azhari and his children tell the Qur'an story of Prophet Ibrahim (AS), the son he prayed for, and the great test Allah gave them both.

Ibrahim made dua for a son for many, many years, and he was an old man when Allah answered it with a boy, Ismail (AS). The Sheikh uses this to teach patience: if a dua is not answered straight away, we keep making it. Ibrahim also prayed for a prophet to come from his children many years later, and that prayer was answered with the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

When Ismail was a boy, Ibrahim saw in a dream that he was to sacrifice his son. He told Ismail, and Ismail, who had learnt about Allah from his father, told him to do what Allah had commanded. The Sheikh then tells a narration: on the way, Shaytan tried three times to stop Ibrahim, and each time Ibrahim threw seven stones at him, which is why pilgrims throw stones at Hajj. At the last moment Allah sent a ram to be sacrificed in Ismail's place. It was a test, and Ibrahim had passed it.

The Sheikh explains that Allah tests the people He loves, and that hard things become easy with practice, just as learning to ride a bike did for one of his children.

The children draw something they make dua for and the animal Allah sent, and answer a quiz about the day the Prophet ﷺ was born, his best friend Abu Bakr and the prophet whose dua held back the sun.

• Surah Al-Baqarah 2:129: Ibrahim prays for a messenger to be raised from among his descendants.
