Who was Prophet Ibrahim (AS)?
As a young man, Ibrahim (AS) told his father that idols were not gods. He saw that the star, the moon and the sun all set, so none of them could be his Lord. He broke his people's idols, and they threw him into a fire, but Allah made it cool and safe for him. He answered a proud king calmly: Allah brings the sun from the east, so bring it from the west.
Angels came to him as guests with the good news of a second son, Ishaq (AS). At Allah's command he left Hajar and baby Ismail in a dry valley, where the water of Zamzam sprang up. Later he saw in a dream that he was sacrificing his son, and Allah ransomed his son, Ismail, with a great sacrifice. Father and son raised the foundations of the Kaaba together. The Qur'an says Allah took Ibrahim as a close friend.
