Prophet Yusuf (AS) stories for kids

1 title · Ages 4-12

Prophet Yusuf (AS) has a whole surah of the Qur'an, in which Allah says near its opening, "We relate to you the best of stories." It tells of a boy thrown into a well by his jealous brothers, who trusted Allah through slavery and prison and was put in charge of the stores of Egypt. These Miraj audiobooks tell it for children.

Who was Prophet Yusuf (AS)?

As a boy, Yusuf dreamed that eleven stars, the sun and the moon prostrated to him, and his father, the Prophet Yaqub (AS), told him not to tell his brothers. They were jealous of their father's love for him. They threw him into a well and brought home his shirt with false blood on it. Travellers found him and sold him in Egypt. When the wife of the Aziz, the minister who bought him, tried to make him do wrong, he refused and chose prison instead.

In prison, Yusuf explained the dreams of two prisoners, and later the king's dream of seven fat cows and seven thin ones. He was cleared of all blame and put in charge of the land's stores, and when famine came, his brothers travelled to Egypt to buy grain. He forgave them, saying, "No blame will there be upon you today," and his shirt gave his father back his sight.

Yusuf and His Amazing Dreams tells the story in six chapters, and The Bowing of the Stars in seven, ending with a recitation of Surah Yusuf. Both follow the order of Surah Yusuf and add details of their own that are not in the Qur'an, such as a name for the Aziz's wife; each page says which. Each page lists the ayahs it comes from, what your child will learn and questions to talk about together afterwards.
