What is Arabic Letters Naughty & Nice Book 2 about?
Arabic Letters Naughty & Nice Book 2 is an interactive alphabet book for children aged 4 to 6 that introduces the next eight letters of the Arabic alphabet, from Daal to Daad, as cheeky and kind characters.
The eight letters are Daal, Dhaal, Raa, Zaay, Seen, Sheen, Saad and Daad, each drawn as it is written. Children cannot relax for a minute when Daal and Dhaal are feeling mischievous, especially when there are sweets about, or Granny's precious flowers. Not every letter is naughty, though. What Sheen does with a shiny coin is a fine example of mercy and compassion, and Seen's Islamic hospitality will warm a parent's heart.
As in every book of the series, the letters come to life through story, animation and narration with authentic Arabic pronunciation. A tap of a small finger makes a letter wobble, jump, snore or roar, so children hear its sound as they play. Nine letters of the Arabic alphabet have no matching sound in English, and the series shows those letters in red, so children know which sounds to listen to most carefully.
The naughty and nice letters give parents an easy way into talking about manners and kindness: what it means to be generous with what we have, and how we look after the guests who come to our home. The series' makers point out that "naughty" letters are not their invention: trained teachers of Arabic call them that too.
The animated Part 2 tells the same letters as a short video. Book 1 comes before it, from Alif to Khaa, and Book 3 goes on from Taa. It is a Miraj original.
