These free Arabic alphabet worksheets help a child aged 4 to 7 get to know their first five Arabic letters: Alif (ا), Ba (ب), Ta (ت), Tha (ث) and Jeem (ج). Each letter is a character with a face from Miraj Stories' Arabic Letters Naughty and Nice books, so the shapes are friends before they are handwriting.

What's in the pack

The pack is nine A4 pages, ready to print:

  1. Meet Alif, Ba, Ta, Tha and Jeem. A colouring page for each letter. The character asks "Can you say my name?" beside the plain letter shape, so your child links the face to the letter.
  2. Trace the letters. A tracing worksheet: each letter, then a row of dotted copies that fade out, from bold dots to faint ones, for pencil control right to left.
  3. Find and match the letter characters. The five characters are hidden among a teddy, a ball, a butterfly and other objects. Your child finds each character and matches it to its letter.
  4. A little guidance for grown-ups. Five tips for using the pages (below).

How to use the worksheets

  • Repeat the letters together, out loud.
  • Say a letter and ask your child to find it on the page.
  • Do the activities over several short sessions rather than all at once.
  • Focus on familiarity and enjoyment rather than perfect colouring or writing.
  • Come back to the pages whenever your child is interested.

Worksheets are good for recognition and handwriting, but they cannot teach sound. Let your child hear each letter first, then colour and trace it. Our guide on how to teach the Arabic alphabet goes through the order letters are best learnt in.

Keep going in the Miraj Stories app

The QR codes in the pack open the Miraj Stories app, where the same letter characters star in interactive books and games that say each letter aloud.

Frequently asked questions

Children aged 4 to 7 who are meeting the Arabic letters for the first time. Younger children enjoy the colouring pages; older ones can do the tracing and matching on their own.

Which Arabic letters does Set 1 cover?

The first five letters of the alphabet - Alif, Ba, Ta, Tha and Jeem. Later sets go on through the alphabet, on this same page.

Do the worksheets teach how the letters sound?

No worksheet can teach sound. Say each letter aloud as your child colours and traces it, or let them hear it first in the Miraj Stories app, then use the pages for recognition and handwriting.
